DAP pledged its support to PAS

DAP is caught in the same unresolved dilemma as whether continue to support PAS as DAP has persistently disagreed with the institution of a Islamic state.

Islamic party PAS came under more fire following its determination to implement the hudud laws, an aspira
tion which was recently reignited by its vice-president Husam Musa.

Husam Musa

Surprisingly, DAP has pledged its support to PAS’ candidate in the upcoming Kuala Terengganu by-election, despite conflicting views on the Islamic state issue and hudud laws.

DAP's national chairperson Karpal Singh said DAP will continue to support PAS, especially by campaigning for the party in Kuala Terengganu.

He, however, cautioned that recent upheavals coalition have affected DAP's enthusiasm.

"PAS should refrain from rocking the boat after the March 8 tsunami. It is quite obvious that the public want an alternative and we can attain that alternative in the next election. I think PAS should hold its peace," said Karpal.

The opposition stalwart was referring to the furor over PAS vice-president Husam Musa’s comments about hudud laws in a public debate in Kota Bharu recently. He had said that PAS would have implemented the Islamic law had Pakatan Rakyat taken over the federal government on Sept 16.

Husam had made the statement in reply to Umno Youth chief aspirant Khairy Jamaluddin's challenge to state PAS' plans were it to take over the federal government.

Karpal suspended for two days by Pandikar

By accusing Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia of being "not serious" and "playful", DAP chairperson Karpal Singh has been suspended for two days from Parliament.

Karpal Singh

Karpal took offence to Nazri referring to Wee Choo Keong (PKR-Wangsa Maju) as 'blind'.

"The minister has insulted the disabled people, and as I represent them, I want him to retract!" said Karpal.

The heated exchange went on until Pandikar had to interject and said the minister had done nothing wrong. Pandikar added that the word 'blind' did not refer to any disabled people.

Unconvinced, Karpal then trained his anger at the speaker, stating: "You are not serious and are being playful (about this)!"

"I have given you a warning and I have to take action under the Standing Orders. I am suspending you for two days from Parliament," said Pandikar.

Hindraf threatening the national security

The Malaysian Government has banned the illegal organization Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) organization based on Section 5(1) of the Societies Act 1966 as it poses a threat to national security.

Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar said in a statement that the government decided to declare Hindraf illegal after the ministry was satisfied with facts and evidence that showed Hindraf was being used for unlawful purposes and posed a threat to public order and morality.

He said the government move followed the result of monitoring and investigations by the country's Registrar of Societies (ROS) since Hindraf was formed.

"As a result of the investigations, the Home Ministry, as per its authority under sections 3 and 5 of the Societies Act 1966, has declared Hindraf unlawful and detrimental to peace, public order, security and the moral values of Malaysia."

Hindraf had actively exploited the Indian community to organize illegal assemblies and street demonstrations without permits that causing a large section of the ethnic Indians to rise up against the government and also hatred among the Malays and Indians in the country.

Syed Hamid said if left unchecked, Hindraf would continue to pose a threat to public order, the security and sovereignty of the country as well as the prevailing racial harmony.

Among 200 Hindraf visited Prime Minister only 1 wish Selamat Hari Raya

About 200 Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) activists visited the ministerial Hari Raya open house at PWTC last Wednesday but only one of them wish Selamat Hari Raya to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, they had failed to shake hands even with other cabinet ministers.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said, “The rest which I heard very clearly, was, ‘Abolish the ISA! Free the Hindraf! Abolish the ISA! Free the Hindraf!’ That’s all they wanted to tell me. This is not the spirit of Hari Raya, where you wish (Selamat) Hari Raya, are happy and have fun and socialize.”

He said the Hindraf crowd created “a lot of unhappiness to a lot of people who were around”.

He said the activists enter into the hall where the main reception was held was accompanied by “a lot of noise”, due in part to their sloganeering over the Internal Security Act (ISA) and demands for the release of their leaders currently being detained.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi expressed ‘disappointment’ with the manner in which Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) activists 'visited' the ministerial Hari Raya 'open house'.

Instead of extending greetings to the hosts and other guests and acting in “the spirit of Hari Raya”, Abdullah felt that the activists had abused their admission and caused “a lot of unhappiness” among those present.

Samy Vellu condemned Hindu temple demolition against Opposition’s promise

The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) officers had taken action to tear down a Hindu temple, the Sri Maha Kaliamman temple in Kampung Tasik, Jalan Baru in Ampang on Sept 9 2008.

MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu condemned the action, saying it went against the Opposition’s promise during the election campaign not to demolish any temples.

“It is very careless of the local council to demolish the temple without first relocating the temple,” he said in a statement.

Human Resources Minister Datuk S. Subramaniam said the MIC was extremely disappointed with the Pakatan Rakyat state government and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

“Our stand all along has been that if a temple needs to be relocated due to road expansion or some other major development, it can be relocated with the agreement that a new place of worship be built in an ideal area,” he said.

After being informed of the demolition of the temple on Wednesday, Selangor MIC Youth Chief M. Yogeswaran immediately lodged a report at the Ampang Jaya police station.

Mahdzir Khalid urged DAP to take action against Kok like UMNO in the case of Bukit Bendera Umno division head

Kedah Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid urged DAP leadership to take action against the party’s central executive committee member, Teresa Kok, for her “almost like dog food” remark on the food served to her while in detention under the Internal Security Act.

He said a politician who is educated and has credibility will not make a statement which can hurt other people’s feelings.

He said Umno would have taken action against its member should the person concerned make such a remark as in the case of Bukit Bendera Umno division head Datuk Ahmad Ismail.

He said that as a political party, DAP should take action against Kok, who is Seputeh Member of Parliament, for insulting security officers and also jeopardizing the country’s good name.

“Teresa knew what she ate while in detention, but after her release she said the food served to her was almost like dog food.

Sept 16 had come and gone with the BN still in power

Parti Keadilan Rakyat has yet again falsely claimed that talks were being held with the Barisan Nasional on a transfer of power. It is the latest baseless strategy to twist and empty boast over transfer of power.

The real reason why people lose confidence in Pakatan Rakyat is the date set for a Pakatan Rakyat takeover; Sept 16 had come and gone with the BN still firmly in control of the government.

The BN government is likely to grow even stronger before it’s predicted. Although Pakatan Rakyat claimed that the opposition coalition having enough defections to topple the government and negotiations had begun with the ruling coalition over a transfer of power, however, not even a single defector has come forward.

It is unacceptable too that the undemocratic transfer of power was allowed to happen. Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday scoffed at a Parti Keadilan Rakyat claim that talks were being held with the Barisan Nasional on a transfer of power.

The prime minister, who is BN chairman and Umno president, also described PKR information chief Tian Chua's claim that contacts had been made between intermediaries of the two sides as "the craziest report I have ever heard".

While Abdullah had denied this, Pakatan Rakyat supremo Anwar Ibrahim also appeared to be in the dark about the negotiations.

"I'm not aware of any negotiations taking place between Pakatan Rakyat and the prime minister - statements made yesterday suggesting that a line of communication was open were misinformed," said the opposition leader in a statement.

Asked on the same issue later, Anwar added: "No, not that I'm aware of… he (Tian) may be privy to other information but as far as I'm concerned what the PM said was right.

"Very rarely do I agree with Abdullah Badawi."

Karpal sues Utusan over a defamatory article

The DAP national chairman and Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament Karpal Singh has filed an RM10mil suit against Utusan Melayu (M) Sdn Bhd over a defamatory article in its Malay daily Utusan Malaysia regarding his purported comments on Islam.

The writ of summons was filed at the Civil High Court registry in the Jalan Duta Court Complex today through his law firm, Karpal Singh & Co.

He claimed the article entitled DAP diingat jangan bakar perasaan Melayu (DAP reminded not to inflame sentiments of Malays) published on Aug 25, had stated that he made the comments on Islam in his welcoming speech at the 15th DAP National Congress held on the previous day.

He claimed the defamatory words were understood to mean, among others, that Karpal was a politician.

bent on creating ill-will among the different communities in the country, was absolutely false and malicious and were intended to destroy his professional and political careers.

He said he had consistently maintained in his public speeches and during his membership of Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat for the last 26 years that Islam was the official religion of the country as provided under Article 3 (1) of the Federal Constitution.

Karpal said he gave notice to Utusan for retraction and apology without prejudice to his right to commence legal proceedings against the Bahasa Malaysia daily newspaper.

He stated that it would be in Utusan’s best interests to comply with his demand for mitigation purposes on damages which could ultimately be ordered against the newspaper by the court.

He said Utusan complied with his demand and had published an article entitled Ralat on Aug 26, retracting and giving its unconditional apology to him and accepted that the words complained of, had no basis.

Karpal noted that the publication of the defamatory words by Utusan on the eve of the polling day of the Permatang Pauh by-election parliamentary seat was to defame him in his capacity as a Pakatan Rakyat coalition leader, with a view to ensure that de facto Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lost in the by-election.

He sought RM10mil in general damages, aggravated damages, exemplary damages, interest, costs and any relief deemed proper by the court.

Annuar Musa: Gerakan issued statements threatened harmony in BN

Kelantan UMNO today asked Gerakan stops demanding UMNO and BN penalize Ahmad over his alleged racially sensitive remarks about the Chinese community.

Its chairman, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, said the remarks by Bukit Bendera UMNO Division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail were made in a personal capacity, similar to the statements by several Gerakan leaders who wanted Gerakan to leave BN.

“Gerakan has of late issued statements which threatened harmony in BN but UMNO leaders have been patient. But the moderation of UMNO leaders, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, should not be taken advantage of.”

Annuar said this was not the appropriate time for any party in BN to make such demands as it could aggravate the situation, adding that it was preferable for component party leaders to reflect and improve themselves.

51st National Day Celebration

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he hoped that every Malaysian could give importance to solidarity.

In his 51st National Day message; he said united citizens were a bulwark against any threat, either from within or outside the country.

He said solidarity was the cornerstone of the country's political stability, social harmony and economic competitiveness.

Ahmad Ismail didn’t mean it, Abdullah says

Malaysia Prime minister and UMNO President Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will personally see to it that Bukit Bendera UMNO chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail does not repeat his remarks about the Chinese were mere squatters or temporary residents of the nation and therefore, it was impossible to achieve equal rights amongst races in the country.

“I will tell him not to do it again. You know in a campaign all sorts of things can come up. I don’t think he meant it. I’ll make sure to tell him not to use it again,” the Prime Minister said after chairing the Bertam UMNO division meeting yesterday.

Ahmad had allegedly called the Chinese pendatang (immigrants) and was also reported to have said that “as the Chinese were mere squatters or temporary residents of the nation and therefore, it was impossible to achieve equal rights amongst races in the country,” during a ceramah in Permatang Pauh in Aug 25.

He had allegedly uttered the remarks in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Gerakan, a component of the Barisan Nasional (BN), has called for stern action against Bukit Bendera UMNO division head Datuk Ahmad Ismail over his recent “seditious” remarks on the Chinese community.

Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye in a statement said, “Many Malaysians are disappointed with the mild statement by Prime Minister and UMNO resident Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi when commenting on the seditious statement by Datuk Ahmad Ismail.

“They (Malaysians) had expected a strong rebuke, especially on Aug 31, a day all Malaysians celebrated the country’s independence. After 51 years of independence, any further doubt of loyalty of any Malaysian of any ethnic origin and the questioning of citizenship is beyond the understanding of all Malaysians.”

“Ahmad’s statement was outdated and racially provocative, adding that any sign of the Barisan Nasional tolerating any out rightly racist and provocative views would give the wrong signal to the people.”

“Ahmad Ismail should not only retract what he uttered and also apologize to all Malaysians but also be disciplined so as to prevent such divisive statement or action from being repeated. Such archaic views can further divide a multi-ethnic country like Malaysia,” he added.

Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan, in another statement, urged the UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership to review its stance against Ahmad. He called on the police to investigate the matter as the MCA and Gerakan Youth had lodged a police report against Ahmad.

Penang Gerakan Youth committee member Dr Thor Teong Gee lambasted Ahmad and charged that UMNO was still using racial ideology to achieve its own personal political agenda.

Bukit Mertajam MCA division chairman Lau Chiek Tuan called for disciplinary action against Ahmad.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary Ng Wei Aik also called on Ahmad to immediately retract his statement and apologize to the community.

Meanwhile, Tanjung Gerakan Youth division chief H’ng Khoon Leng lodged a police report at the district police headquarters in Patani Road over Ahmad’s alleged remarks.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said there was no reason for Ahmad to stir racial feelings with his remarks.

“This is the Merdeka month and such a racist remark should not have been made,” he added.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said UMNO leaders should stop using racial sentiment to seek support from the people.

2009 Budget: Civil servants get one month salary or RM1, 000

Can the Pakatan Rakyat state government give a bonus of one-month salary or a minimum of RM1,000 to state civil servants?

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the bonus payment of one-month salary or a minimum of RM1, 000 to be paid in two installments in September and December was in appreciation of the increased productivity and contribution by the 1.2 million public sector employees toward national development.

Only Anwar can unite DAP

DAP secretary-general and Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng said DAP choose Anwar because it believed that he was the most suitable person to complete the transformation and was a “common choice”.

He is also said to be “widely accepted by everyone in the Opposition”. But is he accepted by the Malay?

A firm DAP 'No' to theocratic state

Although DAP, PAS together with PKR form the Pakatan Rakyat, the country’s most successful opposition alliance so far, but the internal conflicts that cuts across communal and religious lines still persisted and might cause the collapse of the coalition.

The Pakatan won 82 out of the 222 parliamentary seats in the March national polls. De facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has promised to reverse the majority, currently held by the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, to his alliance’s favour and form a new government by Malaysia Day on Sept 16 thus might become the political myth.

The different ideologies of PAS and DAP would be the obstacles for the them to be coexisted inside the Pakatan Rakyat politically. PAS with the depth of its radical Islamism, historical avoidance of anti-system strategies and anti-secularism would deepen the political differences of ideologies.

P
AS, an initial opposition political party, which, persistently and dedicatedly to the formation of an Islamic state. The party's purists, popularly branded as "ulama", are steadfastly committed to the formation of an Islamic state, replete with Shari'a law and the Hudud code of punishments.

Ironically, PAS positions itself as a political party that aims to establish Malaysia as a country based on Islamic legal theory derived from the primary sources of Islam, the Quran, Sunnah as well as Hadiths.

On the contrary, DAP remains firm in its opposition to PAS setting up an Islamic state as any move in that direction would be unconstitutional. More precisely, DAP will not compromise with PAS over the latter's moves to establish an Islamic state.

PAS with its Islamic credentials and push for the establishment of an Islamic state cost the party lost a lot of support among the non-Muslims that unable to quell the fears of non-Muslims.

In the opening speech at the DAP 2008 congress, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng reiterated his party would reject any proposal to turn the country into a theocratic state, whether Islamic or Christian, fuelling speculation it will just be a matter of time before the Chinese-dominated party hits the collision course with coalition partner and Islamic hardliner PAS.

“Any proposal to turn Malaysia into a theocratic state whether an Islamic or a Christian state is contrary to our vision of a civil society that is multi-cultural and multi-religious. Further, it violates the Federal Constitution that is based on civil laws (and not on religious ones).”

Lim denied his speech was intended to provoke PAS, which has constantly voiced its intention of transforming Malaysia into an Islamic state, should it come to power in the future.

“We have no other intentions; we must abide by the four principles that have been the basis of our unity in Pakatan Rakyat. If we do not understand this, Pakatan will collapse.”

In addressing these questions, the contrasting political ideology between PAS and DAP is always to be taken into consideration. Can these parties with different ideologies and goals get together to form a good government?

Theory of RAHMAAN- Anwar the 6th PM

If the pronunciation of Rahman is Rahmaan, then Anwar should become the next Prime Minister. Otherwise Najib should be the one.

If A is for Anwar, then N could be Najib, Nik Aziz, Nurul Izzah, Nasaruddin Md Isa, or even DAP – Ngieh?

According to Kwong Wah Yit Poh, the best selling paper in Penang, Anwar Ibarhim in an exclusive interview said that RAHMAN should be spelled as RAHMAAN because the Arabic pronunciation of Rahman should be Rahmaan (double-a).

Rahman is the transliteration of an Arabic given name رحمن that comes from the triconsonantal root R--M, meaning benevolent. In Islam, the name الرحمن is considered one of the 99 Names of God.

It is believed that the RAHMAN Theory which foretells that the first seven Prime Ministers of Malaysia ‘must’ follow the alphabets of the word RAHMAN:

R = Tunku Abdul Rahman (1st PM)
A = Abdul Razak Hussein (2nd PM)
H = Hussein Onn (3rd PM)

M = Mahathir (4th PM)
A = Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (5th PM)

A = Anwar (6th PM)

N = Najib (7th PM)

Hence it is clear therefore that why Anwar is so obsessed with the spelling of the word.

Hamzah: "Anwar Ibrahim harassed my wife"

Anwar Ibrahim is being accused of sodomy and now, being a womanizer. It is interesting to note that of all opposition leaders, why Anwar is the only one to be accused of moral wrongdoings. Not once but a few times.

N
ik Aziz, Hadi Awang, Lim Kit Siang and Karpal had been arch political enemies of Barisan Nasional longer than Anwar, but so far we do not hear any nasty stories about them.

To be accused of sexual misconduct is a serious matter especially for top politicians who aspire to be leaders of the rakyat. Just imagine a Prime Minister who preaches the people, especially the young generation, to be good morally but he himself does the contrary.

Of course, we have also heard so many stories about sexually-corrupt leaders being blackmailed by foreign powers to be their political slaves.

O
n 19 August 2008, Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin had been quoted by Kwong Wah Jit Poh newspaper as saying that Anwar had in 1998 tried to take advantage of his wife even though they were best of friends then.

He told the newspaper that Anwar had "kacau" his wife. Therefore, he thinks that the voters should not vote for Anwar in the coming Permatang Pauh by-election.

In view of this, Anwar has demanded an apology from Hamzah within forty-eight (48) hours or face a RM10 million lawsuit.

It has been reported that Hamzah declined and instead challenged Anwar to proceed with his libel suit.

How interesting if the court proceeding is held before the by-election. We certainly want to hear the details of what actually happened. Surely Hamzah has some proofs in his sleeves to be revealed to the court.
