Is Khoo Kay Kim skillfully manipulating Chinese educational issue?

An Analysis of Malaysia’s 12th Genereal Elections

There is a need for extra sensitivity when proposals are based upon education, race and religion in multiracial society.

Ironically, a society can be ripped apart by the unwise handling of sensitive issues and causes political instability and the fall of the regime.

Khoo Kay Kim

Academically, it is not wrong for Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim to propose a restructure of the national education system to introduce a single stream system but the act can be seen as systematic usurpation of ultimate BN political power.

Undeniably, the calls for a single-stream school system would mean that vernacular schools would cease to exist and it will generate political turmoil or cause MCA especially UMNO to lose its grip on power.

Ironically, Chinese education issue is a sensitive issue of the Chinese. It remained a taboo subject since independence.

Historically, vernacular schools have existed for more than half a century and there are about 1,000 Chinese primary schools and about 500 Tamil schools in the country.

Politically, the vernacular school system in this country is an area that is extremely sensitive. Even MCA championing the cause of Chinese schools but it is claimed that due to ineffectiveness of handling the issues, the Chinese have lost confidence in MCA. Many Chinese have felt betrayed and taken advantage of by its leaders and it caused MCA lost in the general election.

Unfortunately, it is claimed that the opposition and academician have done everything they could to discredit MCA as well as BN. They know fully well that the proposal contradicted the spirit of the Federal Constitution, which guaranteed the freedom to promote and develop the vernacular school system.

In fact, it is often seen that many academician are anti-establishment and not surprisingly anti-establishment news and viewpoints can be regularly heard.

The consistency of their overt or covert anti-establishment viewpoints that can threaten the stability and usurpation of political power is most welcome by opposition.

While BN had hoped for popular support from the local population, what right do we have to help someone to usurpation ultimate political power of the BN government?

I wonder how Professor Khoo Kay Kim obtained his degree. He stress a lot how clever he is and how wide the history knowledge he has. But in his debate with deputy minister of education Dr. Wooi Kar Siang the example he brought up are so childish and so uneducated.

1. He siad that vernacular schools only produce 'copy cat' and the students are brainless and don't have their opinion, what the teacher said or told them to do they just follow. The example he gave was so unbelievably stupid. He said he met a student from Chinese school, the teacher asked what is the most beautiful season of the year? or what is the most beautiful colour? Here I want to say I am Chinese educated and my teacher never, and never will ask such a stupid question like that. Maybe the teacher want to know how much a student understand a passage, he will ask 'In the passage what is the most beautiful season that the author think?'

2. He said Chinese schools only care about scoring straight A's. That's why their science and maths are so good. Here I want to tell a secret that nobody ever mentioned before. It is the Chinese language that makes the magic. As we all know Chinese language is one word one sound. So it makes the student easier to memorize some formula or times table.
Take times table as example
two two four, two three six, two four eight. Only three sound, it's so simple whereas in Malay dua kali dua jadi empat, dua kali tiga jadi enam, it's way too long, slow and tiering.
Science and maths is not what Professor's childish mind think like 1+1=2. It actually need a lot of logical thinking. I wonder if Professor know anything or at least heard about test-tube baby, the technology of cloning, invention of computer etc... I think Professor still live in history.

3. The mother tongue means the language your ancester used. It seems that you have a new interpretation but no one agree with you.

4. The most foolish part is Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim taught only study under one roof can unite one another and will be patriotic. I want to tell Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim here
you didn't learn from history at all. All you learn is a waste of time and effort.
It is not the language you learn or speak that matter. Its the question of survival instinct. People will betray their friends if they want to get something and someone get in their way. Animals alike, males want to have sex with the females, they fight to death. Take Bosnia for example, they speak the same language same race, why do kill each other. You study history must always ask yourself why? why? why?
You also must study world history not just being a Kampung Historian.
